Definition of Karana Sharira Tanmatra, mahat, five elements were in subtle form, what is creation? What is Ahankara and what is vyashti? I have already answered what is vyashti. 'Karana', understand this, it is very clear from the word 'Karana', with which everything happened is called as 'Karana Sharira'. So if you say your mind or illusion, from where did they come from, which sea's waves are these, the waves from where they have originated. Where have they originated from? You will say they have emerged from the sea. Similarly, from where the mind, intellect and illusion have arisen? We call it avidya or we will say from the 'Karana sharira'. They have emerged from the 'Karana sharira', so 'Karana' means causal, through which it happens like from the clay, pot is made. If there is no clay then pot cannot be made, so the pot is formed from clay. If we say where did the mind come from? We will say that the mind emerged from 'Karana', if we say vyashti (individually) then it is 'Karana' and if we this say samashti (aggregately) we will call this 'Sutratma'. Each and everything came from where, from avidya, sometimes we say from maya (illusion), they are synonyms but sometimes because of their functioning the name changes. At some places it differs due to its functionality, that is why. In Sanskrit language, any word is not there without having its particular meaning that is why they are one but still they are not the same Like we say, water, steam and ice are one but still makes so much difference. If you throw water on someone, nothing will happen, Holi Hai! (Hindu festival of colours) will happen. and if you throw ice on someone, their head might burst because ice is the condensed form of water and steam can burn someone. It is water only but so much difference. If we say, where did the 'Karana Sharira' emerge from? so we will say it came from illusion, not vyashti (individual), from samashti maya (the aggregate illusion) is making all this happen. So from that illusion 'Karana sharira' formed and from the same 'Karana'... expansion took place 'Tanmatra' (five perceptions), mahat. Mahat means the big mind. Another name for illusion. Mahat actually means 'big' 'Big'. Your mind is very tiny. Very small mind. But if we talk about God's mind then we have to say 'Mahata' Like, at night, when you dream and it feels as if it is true. Similarly, this whole world is Ishwara's illusionary mind's creation That is why we call it Mahat - very big. Tanmatras are the subtle form. They are those subtle forms through which, according to the creation's order, our senses are formed. So 'Shabda (sound), Sparsha (touch), Roopa (sight), Rasa (taste) and Gandha (smell)' are the 'Tanmatras'. and then after this their gross form is formed - Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space. So space, direction and karan (ear) makes up shabd (sound) Generally we understand that first space was formed then ear was formed then the sound moved in some direction No no, it is the opposite, first tanmatras (subtle form) were formed first the shabd (sound) then space and then your body is made up of five elements. Gross form of the world. So what is ahankara? I know this. This is white, this is red, this yellow, this is a mountain, this is a person I know it. I am aware of it. Who is 'the knower'. Like if we understand the word 'Abhimaan', "maan" means measurement So 'Abhimaan' means you have joined yourself with some measurement. You have connected it to your body. So you will have the 'Abhimaan' that I am fat, I am thin, I am tall, I am beautiful, I am bald, I am old, I am young, I am a boy, I am a man, I am a woman. If you connected this 'Maan' with your intellect then- I am intelligent, I am dumb, I have no understanding, I have understanding. Same if you connect it with mind, I am a sinner, I am virtuous, I am very good, I am very bad, I am very hot-headed, I am very selfish So some 'Maan", at some extent when you connect your 'I' that is what we call as 'Abhimaan'. and 'Aham kaar'- aham's lalkaar (challenge given out loud, due to I, the ego) 'Ahamkaar' is called expansion of Aham (self). Where there is no need of chest-thumping and say out loud but with eyes, the way they talk, the way they walk, their body language... they tell that I am something. Expansion happened. Expansion of self. Now because you don't know your real Self so what expansion does a person do? I have lots of money, my car is very big, my house is very huge, I have a designer home, my clothes are very nice, have come from Italy, my jewellery is very nice, a top most jeweller made it. So to which things are you connecting self with? then expands that and 'Lalkaar' means telling other people as well. If you won't tell that your watch is worth 15 lakhs then what is the fun of wearing it! So if someone wears it, they will show it off to other people. See this, see this, it is so nice, see this, it is so good. The problem arises when the other person is wearing 'its daddy' (even more expensive watch). There are some watches which are worth, 2 lakhs, 4 lakhs 6 lakhs, or 10 lakhs too. So there his showing off falls short and he gets a sad face. So then they say my mind (mood) got spoiled. Why? Your boasting didn't work. So there is a difference between the words 'Abhimaan' and 'Ahankara'
