Experience of Bliss Anandmurti Gurumaa (with English subtitles)

"While studying Vedanta while practicing the principles everything seems to be strangely unfamiliar but bliss has not yet been experienced all the actions occurring through the body, mind and intellect appear as meaningless and their... the actions being done through them the emotions or decisions 'is not me'— this is clear but my real nature is Satya-Chetan-Ananda (truth-conscious-bliss), I haven't had this experience because of all this, a certain kind of sadness and... loneliness is being felt In order to come out of it, sometimes I practice devotion or at other times, I perform service and sometimes, I tend to leave everything after getting tired In life a feeling of aimlessness is emerging" See, first thing is that the capability to understand Vedanta comes only to that person who has one-pointed concentration of the mind the one whose mind is not one-pointed whose mind is scattered for such a person, doing such a spiritual practice isn't possible at all means, the capacity and ability that is required to understand Vedanta this is achieved through Vairagya (dispassion) but vairagya does not mean sadness, you should understand this thing In the path of devotion worshipping Ishwara is emphasized and stressed upon the Lord should be pleased one should always remember Lord one should be in remembrance of the Lord one should listen to the glorious tales of the lord and so on and so forth However, in the path of Vedanta, the firm conviction which exists that firm conviction is if we say in the outwardly context, then it's in reverence and devotion towards the Guru and the room for worshipping Ishwara, in a way, does not exist because for a disciple, only his Guru is like Brahma, who infuses in him the seed of higher wisdom; His Guru is like Vishnu who protects and safeguards his devotion and power of discrimination and all the worldly desires and changes in the forms of mind, lying in the subconscious the Guru breaks them, diminishes them, kills them therefore, Guru is also regarded as Shankara Now, there are two kinds of people— some are those who do worship the Guru but then they don't feel the need to imbibe higher wisdom. They remain entangled in their emotion Remember that you buy a car to reach somewhere if you buy a car and let it always remain parked in the house, then it will simply break down so, car serves the purpose of going somewhere In our nation, this is an irony that here there are so many sects that begin to operate which, to an extent, also tend to be in opposition to the higher wisdom and the Vedas Veda means the truth, Veda means the higher wisdom; What does opposition to the wisdom mean? Now what they do, believing that they worship the Guru, is that they worship the Guru's image, pay their salutations they do repeat the word 'Guru', but remain negligent of the Guru's wisdom Now, what will happen when they would disregard the higher wisdom mind will remain trapped in the attachments and aversions of the world and when it'll indulge in attachments and aversions, then it'll also experience happiness and sorrows everything does not remain the same merely a year and a half back, who would have thought of the oncoming of corona virus who would have thought that a pandemic would strike who would have thought that merely stepping out of the house would become a regulation; meeting people would become a curse Since many people were negligent saying that 'nothing will happen to us', they continued with their normal routine; and then when the virus infected them then many people lost their lives who would have thought that such a time will also come when for three weeks....during the first lockdown, people remained in their houses for three weeks those wives who used to say that their husbands do not spare time for them then they became so bored of their husbands that they thought- why isn't he going outside....now, he actually can't go outside so, domestic violence escalated during those days many problems occurred so, good doesn't always remain good, bad doesn't always remain bad; Time keeps changing since things are now changing in this cycle of time, so...if you will not fill up your mind and intellect with the light of wisdom so, when these changes occur externally, then mind becomes highly agitated so, these sects which are centered around the Guru— therefore, worshipping the Guru, being in remembrance of the Guru remember the Guru, serve the Guru repeated 'Guru' in numerous ways, but the wisdom slipped away from hands Now, if the Adhyasa (illusory imposition) with the body is maintained, means if he considers himself to be this physical body so, when this body would become sick, then he would feel that I have become sick and if it dies then as if life has come to an end The question is— the Guru was a means to attain self-realisation but the true self was not realised, and just the Guru's picture was worn around the neck Guru's image was placed well but the wisdom was forgotten so, this is the same thing as buying a car and parking it in the house, and never really driving it so, what utility does it provide? So, as much as loving the Guru and having reverence towards the Guru are important an even more important thing than that is the purpose for which you are doing all this for realising Atman (the true self) for realising Ishwara for realising Brahman (the real self), for acquiring the higher wisdom In this period of being a Guru, I have met many people including both men and women who would immensely love me...can't even call it love, for they would say that they wouldn't eat without seeing me they completely clung in such a way that it felt like... what are these people up to! and since, the mind is like that child who wants one thing at one time and some other thing at other time then, on a certain thing, their mind changed then it has been ages since I last saw them; I don't even know if they are still alive or not I might remember them on some odd day but, where did their love vanish? In reality, it wasn't love that love which demands convenience cannot be regarded as 'love' even Guruji appears to be pleasing until he reprimands, your faith remains intact until then; and the moment you're reprimanded if your faith vanishes then, so this can't be called faith and reverence in the first place Like Kabir Ji says- "Guru kumhar Shishya Kumbh hai de de kare hai chot" if the Guru (who is like a potter) has to shape a disciple, who symbolises an unbaked pot so, the pot has to be struck with a wooden pallet, in order to give it a round shape now, when the Guru strikes that pallet and scolds the disciple, there itself the disciple says I don't know who you are, you might be a Guru in your house; I won't listen to you and he runs away Now, the thing is that— the world is transient, this is understandable but I am Sachidananda, why is this not being understood? Why is its firm conviction difficult to establish? The reason for this is just like, this lie has been repeated million times that you are this physical body so, you started considering it to be true so, now million times this firm conviction has to be repeated thoughtfully that I am the embodiment of truth ahh...why is the supreme bliss not experienced distinctively?! see, experience of this supreme bliss requires the fulfilment of a specific rule, so you fulfill that rule and that rule is this whenever your mind becomes still and steady whenever now, when does your mind become still whenever you acquire your desired object,it is at this time that your mind becomes still Right! I don't want to go into further details. So, you understand it through this principle itself whenever you acquire your object of desire, then mind becomes still and just like your reflection gets formed in still water similarly, in a still mind the reflection of true blissful self gets formed what we call, in common parlance, that I experienced immense happiness so, where did the happiness come from- from the outside or from within? On seeing the rains, one person said— I wish to eat Jalebi, I wish to eat Jalebi then, go and get it from the market so, he went on a scooter the roads were flooded with water, the scooter stopped working and as the trucks and cars passed by, they splashed the dirty muddy water on that person the scooter had to be dragged, and firstly it had to be taken to a mechanic, and then he reached that shop with great difficulty there, fresh hot jalebis were being prepared; he said- Give me 1 kg jalebi he bought the jalebis now, he thought— since, it might take some time to reach home, so I should eat it here itself he quickly placed a jalebi in his mouth now, when its hot tip fell on the tongue, then he experienced a burning sensation in his tongue so now when he is eating jalebi, is he experiencing pleasure or pain? even the slightest deviation in attaining the desired object results in sorrow anyway! he drank cold water, comforted his tongue, and then after slightly blowing he again ate jalebi; Then, he said— Oh! now I've enjoyed now the question arises did the happiness emerge from consuming jalebi or did it come from the stillness of the mind was pleasure felt when in a still mind, the reflection of bliss occurred Or, was pleasure felt because of jalebi Now if you say— No, no, it came because of jalebi; then I'll give you another situation If some person tells you that you have to consume 10 kg jalebi, as jalebi is the source of pleasure and happiness, so eat 10 kg jalebi and you say that you can't eat, but that person says you'll be beaten 100 times with a stick if you won't eat the same jalebi which was giving pleasure now, when you'll have to eat it out of this fear, so will it give you pleasure or pain Why? Did the happiness that jalebi provide, vanish? or did your mind move? In this example of jalebi, you can put any other object of the world in its place every single thing gives you happiness for as long as your mind stays steady after receiving that thing so in a steady mind, the reflection of bliss— which you refer to as happiness had a son, a grandson, a daughter birthday was celebrated, favourite food was eaten, the favourite dress was worn some jewellery was bought, some jewellery was worn, some new car was purchased bought a new motor bike went on a vacation to some beautiful destination like Maldives, Dubai as you landed in Dubai, you felt really happy- wow! we have reached Dubai and as you were going through customs at the airport it was revealed that you're carrying mangoes in a bag; they said- how are you carrying mangoes, why didn't you declare it earlier Once, when we had gone to New Zealand then, one is supposed to fill that form that you aren't carrying any fruits, flowers or seeds with you so, I tick marked everything- No, not carrying anything but we were caught you know why? what happened was that the day we had left from here, it was the season of Motiya flower (Arabian Jasmine) at that time so, one of my devotees had offered motiya flowers to me while paying obeisance now, since it had such a magnificent fragrance so, I kept that motiya flower in my purse and forgot later on now I thought, by the word 'flower', they probably mean some bouquet sort of a thing but, it isn't a bouquet I had not kept any seeds there were three flowers for those three flowers, I had paid a fine of three hundred dollars Oh! you feel so sorry...why don't you give the money then! three hundred dollars! Also, by chance I did not have any money and the party that was accompanying me, exited from there quite conveniently and in this also, I was the one who got caught but, the reason for being caught was this....there were those sniffer dogs now, I liked the dog, I found him really adorable as I caressed him, he came closer to me and then he just stayed there it was then that they said- kindly get it checked for what is it that you are carrying; I had called the dog and it had come so.. three flowers were there now, I am seated and thought- no worries, you go without me attend the discourse now I am seated with the officials from the customs department; so, I called them— brother! give money I don't have it so, my entire team was really upset over this thing; for, how can this happen, why did they stop you? I said- they have a specific rule now, I had forgotten not a problem three flowers- three hundred dollars do you understand how valuable are the flowers of this place so, for some time my whole team was upset and unhappy not because money had to be paid but because of the fact that all this had occurred, and it shouldn't have happened I said— not a problem, it's all good, it's fine it's a good thing; whatever happened, happened for the good, leave it now so, after sometime everybody relaxed and there, when they saw the scenic view that was in front of them, they thought- wow! we have come to such a beautiful place; they forgot everything so, is it New Zealand that gives happiness? neither New Zealand, nor Switzerland; neither this, nor that happiness is derived from the stillness of your mind now, in your mind, whenever you experience happiness, then ponder upon this at that time whether this happiness came from outside or from within the happiness that you received every single time was nothing but a shadow of your own blissful existence; What else was it In deep sleep there is no existence of any worldly object but, so much happiness is derived in deep sleep be it an animal or a human, if he is in deep sleep and you try waking him up, then see how he wakes up with great difficulty he just wouldn't want to wake up, and will keep saying- let us sleep, let us sleep the happiness that is experienced in deep sleep, whose happiness is it? that also belongs to the true blissful reality that I am but if a specific experience of bliss has to be felt, then a specific state of mind also has to be made what does a specific state of mind mean— mind has to be made one-pointed therefore, one should practice Dharana and Dhyana When, through Dharana or Dhyana, or through Mantra chanting, Pranayama or Yoga-Nidra when after doing these particular spiritual practices you will take your mind to that specific one-pointed state then, the mind will experience that distinctive bliss principle is the same bliss emanates from your own true self, it does not belong to anything external okay, listen to it this way On having darshan of Shri Rama all Rishis, Shabri, Ahilya, Sita, felt so ecstatic but on seeing the same Shri Rama did Subahu, Marich, Meghnad, Ravan experience joy or pain? now, they are experiencing unhappiness they want to kill Rama but when the devotees of Rama meet Rama, they feel ecstatic so, what is the meaning derived from it Even Rama gives you happiness only when your own mind is one-pointed and if your mind is not one-pointedly concentrated in him then, even when Rama himself is standing in front even then, Meghnad and Ravan are feeling unhappy So, whenever the mind becomes still, whenever it has one-pointed concentration then, joy is experienced and, whenever this one-pointed concentration is emanating due to reasons arising from within is arising due to one's spiritual practices So, when the mind would become stable, the distinctive bliss would be experienced Just like, your own face you can't see it without a mirror so, actually nobody has seen his own face; whatever you have seen you have seen it in the mirror and do you know that things appear reversed in the mirror right is left, left is right but you feel so happy on seeing your reversed face- 'I look so good today' and if somebody compliments that you are looking good today, it validates and gives immense happiness one-pointed concentration of the mind will bring about a distinctive experience of bliss in the state of Samadhi, there will be a distinctive experience in love, a deep and profound bliss is experienced
