I have this question - Sahib asks that I do everyday 2 mala (rosary beads) of Gayatri, 12 mala of Ram, 5 mala of om namah shivaya 2 mala of surya mantra on Sundays And I have also started 2 malas daily of the mantra you gave at initiation Is this too many different mantras at one time? For sure it is You are you are just getting bamboozled because of the choice of mantras which you are doing Better stick to one mantra And do it like next 3 years, forget all other mantras and just stick with one mantra Mantra is like a sound wave which you are creating in your system, in your mind, in your body and It needs to do its work for certain period of time that you you get associated with the mantra so deeply That the moment you begin your mantra I say like within 10 or 12 or 15 minutes your mind is absolutely quiet if this happens Then it means that you are doing it correctly but if your mind is like a monkey just jumping around And not sticking to..umm..with you Then it is better that you first correct the wavered thinking of the mind Although mantra is meant to do that but if you are not following the rules of doing mantra properly Then whatever Mantra you might do you will be still having issues So, the approach should be that you do the mantra in such a way First you stabilize your physical body, your posture Then comes that you deepen up your breathing Then comes your resolve that I wish to do mantra And it should be your 100% resolve, it's not like a lukewarm - I do want to do but I also want want to watch a cricket match But I also want to go out and eat but I also want to do shopping or I also want to do this And if you have so many strings pulling on your mind And if you will sit with this kind of...umm...state of the mind Doesn't matter which mantra you do You will be unable to strike a good rapport with that mantra Mantra should be like an ocean in which your mind just dissolves Mind and mantra should become one And there is a certain frequency of every mantra so you should be following one mantra at one time Do it at least what...uh the Great Rishis have said That the mantra becomes very tangible for you That the hidden energies are all arisen And one of the very peculiar symptom Or attribute which your mind will have is That the moment you do that mantra, your mind is not ready to think about anything or go anywhere or do anything else And it just sinks into this ocean of the mantra If this is not happening and you are just switching from one mantra to another to another to another It's like digging one feet of ground at one place, then another spot is chosen then you dig another 2 feet then you... Move to another then another and then you wonder why can't I find water Say if the water is at um 150 or 200 feet Down below the ground Then you need to dig at one place only To finally get that reservoir of water But if you are just digging different pits at different places You will not get to the source of the water So it becomes very important that you do one mantra at one time And you go very deep into this mantra And this Mantra and mind becomes one, it's like you know when a footballer is playing football They sometimes get injured because lot of pushing, pulling, throwing And their body is being kicked by other footballers And the teams are sometimes you know crashing up with one another and So they have um like maybe a small fracture has happened or something else has happened But the drive to play the football match is so strong That they hardly feel any pain and they keep on playing Until they drop down they they just keep on playing And when they are, they are so much into the game That it's only when the game ends then they say oh I have broken this muscle, I must have sprained that muscle and then You know, how come you couldn't feel at that time? It's like when the army, you know, when they they are waging a war against an intruder On the border And sometimes you know they get injured, the army personnel gets injured But I have heard stories of so many army personal that they got injured, they got bullet shot And yet they kept on fighting and yet they kept on pulling their rifles and bombarding And even hand to hand combat happened while the person was shot, this means what? This means that the uh sense of responsibility that I am the I am the person key person at the moment at the border To secure our borders and I cannot allow the enemy To intrude and to uh give us problems and So I have to stop it The sense of duty, the nation before anything else even before their own life So they have killed the intruders, they have grounded the intruder And then sometimes they fall and then the their teammate from their paltan will come and carry that person And they wonder that how could you do this? You were shot, you were shot and yet you were fighting How come? How did that happen? Sense of duty So if a footballer can ignore the pain And play the game and not feel the pain of you know whatever sprain or whatever injury has happened When an army personal doesn't feel the pain and keeps on doing their duty This is I would say classic example that you should always keep in your head before you do any practice That they lost the grip of their own pain which is happening in the body So much engrossed into their duty or playing game or defending the country So how come you are doing your mantra and you remember everything and you are feeling everything, your mind is running and racing everywhere? That's not the right approach If your mind is flying off to various directions And you have mala in your hand' That just shows that you don't have the sincerity or the discipline or the resolve or the dedication which is required So please follow one Mantra in such a way that you can make most of it and you can experience either of the experience, there's so many Just like, you know, I have this letter with me She writes that While doing pranayama A very deep....a very deep desire That I come to you And I am unable to understand how this strong pain arose I was not able to do sadhana (disciplined practice) for a long time and then a time came that it started happening properly And while doing sadhana, while doing pranayama It felt like everything has dissolved, everything has ended And everything has stopped But exactly at the same time a nervousness came that what is happening So much so that I was not able to sit for pranayama for several days I want to know how to do my sadhana in a better manner? And this you have written that breath ratio is 6-26, what do you mean - I didn't understand, Akriti? 6 and 26? Oh no No, it shouldn't be so variable Be present in the morning One of my disciples will check how you are breathing While exhaling if you are stopping your breath and you are doing it while stopping in between Even then this much difference can happen not otherwise OK, let's talk about both things - one So that your practice can happen properly, like I said for that you must have a strong resolve Worldly matters, responsibilities of the family And the mind being anxious without any reason And becoming entangled in worldly affairs And even forgetting your practices This is a very natural thing that usually happens It happens And then at a good time like a sleeping person wakes up Similarly the mind wakes up - oh...what did I do? And you start doing your practices again This is also good that you didn't just forget about it Finally you woke up, doesn't matter after how long But it's also true that for the duration that you forget You wasted that much time And this is that time which you won't be able to bring. back That which you won't be able to buy back and rewind That which is gone is gone That loss cannot be compensated, first of all So you must know how precious is your every breath, your every moment See when you were born, you were born with a breath That first breath which a newborn takes on coming out of the mother's womb That is his birth Birth is not the body coming out of a womb There are stillborn babies too When do we consider it to be a birth? When that baby takes the first breath So, breath going in is birth And breath going out is death And which breath would it be that will go out but not go in again? No one knows anything about this Do you know? It's very strange The breath you can't trust whether it will come back in the body or not Life is so fragile, so fragile Ahh...and unconsciousness of humans is that big It's so big, so big that we have wasted millions of lives And we are wasting the present life very nicely too Because our training is such This is our training of several lives Running after sensory pleasures, running after the body Where is the time for spirituality and doing your practices with discipline? There is no time for this, so If you look around yourself, everyone is stuck First they are stuck in studies, then job, business and family Then they are stuck in relationships, in court cases and in earning money Then in this and that....so it's an era of being stuck that is going on A lack of time Because all your time is spent in these, that's why Neither do people have time Nor do they have enough virtuous karmas that they give time to satsang See I am 100 percent in this favor That you won't attain gyana (eternal wisdom) but listening to kirtan alone You won't attain gyana by going to temples alone You won't attain gyana by going to a holy place and taking a bath You won't attain gyana by doing yagya, etc. It won't happen by performing various prayers and rituals either You will attain gyana only by being in presence of a gyani (one who has realized the Absolute Reality) Guru And you can't meet a gyani Guru without having virtuous karmas That's why a person should definitely do virtuous karmas and follow dharma (righteousness) with surrender When we talk about virtuous karmas, our scriptures say Waking up before sunrise is also dharma Taking bath and sitting in an asana is also dharma To serve your parents is also dharma Giving food, clothes and education to the poor is also dharma Respecting Mahatmas, Sants, Rishis, Munis and Wise ones is also dharma Doing selfless service at a holy place is also dharma All these come under dharma So those who keep doing such virtuous karmas and don't expect anything in return And if someone keeps doing these virtuous karmas considering it his good fortune So with these virtuous karmas, your balance of virtues that gets formed like If you have a talk balance, you can talk on the phone If that has ended, you can keep the phone in your hand but can't talk on it You won't be able to make or receive calls Similarly, there is a balance of our virtuous karmas When this ends, then dharma and spirituality will both go away from your life You will go away from Guru and satsang Secondly, when you do virtuous karmas in life If you do dharma and keep doing virtuous karmas And if you keep doing this without any expectation Then know that your balance of virtues keeps increasing And when your balance of virtues increases Then like you get an interest every 3 months from your... I am just giving an example, I don't know what policies and plans are present now Imagine that your bank's policy is that every 3 months you will get an interest on your fixed deposit You will only get it after 3 months, right? You won't get it after 3 days Similarly, there is a time when our virtuous karmas mature And when that time comes, a desire will arise in your mind When this desire arises in your mind, you will find satsang And alongwith availability of satsang if your virtuous karmas increase a little more Then you will get an opportunity to sit at a Mahatma's feet and have darshan And if you don't have that much virtuous karmas, you won't have darshan but you will be listening on TV and on the phone Right? There are many people who listen But they just listen, they are not able to come to me I get letters from all around I can't even tell you In the whole world, people who listen Those who get connected through listening Then those who have the desire And then whose virtuous karmas become supportive They start listening and they are reaping the benefit of listening
