The question is what is satya and asatya? and why do we get carried away towards the path of asatya and why is the path of satya so difficult? and why is asatya so alluring? first thing satya and asatya its definition cannot be taken the way you usually do for example, you say what does not exist, is asatya (untruth) what exists, is satya (truth) like at this time, the Sun is not there that is satya (true) and if someone says at this time at 6:40 in Rishi Chaitanya Ashram, Gannaur, the Sun is there so this will be asatya (false) asatya means commonly what is not seen that is asatya (false) and what can be experienced is true say, if I ask what is the color of this shawl? huh! purplish and the color of the cap what is it? greyish If I say, no, this is not grey, it is white then, then you say I am telling a lie (asatya) that's what you just said! so then the color of this cap is white? he is saying, yes it is! now that is asatya (a lie) If I say the color of the shawl is yellow if you say that the color of this shawl is yellow if you say then it is asatya (untrue) if something is seen as it truely is we call it the satya (truth) and what is not and if it is seen as something else we call it is asatya (false) but this is a wrong definition of satya & asatya Vedanta says that the existence which is present in three streams of time (past, present & future) being present and exists in which there is no change that which cannot be destroyed that is the satya and in the present past and future that which changes does not remain same that which has been born and that which can be destroyed that which is changeable and which decreases that whose form doesn't remain the same is asatya like, let us come back to this shawl again, This shawk is, my prop today this shawl before becoming a shawl, it was a thread what was it? now this if it has woolen thread then where did the wool come from? the yarn was made nylon, wool, was knitted, wool or may some synthetic thread might be there Exactly which one, I do not know, but I can say that if we suppose there are some threads of wool some cotton threads, so cotton, have you ever seen a cotton field? in that on top of the plant there is a little bud from which cotton comes out that cotton is collected when cotton is there it is the fruit of that crop but when it was planted, there was no cotton what was there then? only green plants now my question is is this a shawl? or wool? is this a shawl or cotton why don't you speak why do you freeze is this cotton or a plant? is this a plant or soil? is this cotton or water? is this cotton or fire? this is cotton or wind? cotton or sky? is this sky or the 5 mahatatvas? these are the five elements or is this Maya (an illusion) is this Maya or Bramhan now you say, this is a shawl and the Gyani says this is Bramhan at present the stole 'is' there but just three years ago it was not there manufacturing date was written on it 3 years ago it was not there, before that it was cotton and before that it was a plant before that was a seed, before being a seed, soil so now is this a shawl or soil? shawl or fire shawl or water, shawl or sun shawl or wind shawl or that plant on which the cotton grew okay now let us assume after sometime shawl becomes torn or worn out gets a stain or becomes damaged and we throw it so where did it go? it will take a bit long time, first it was used here then may be by someone else then that person used it then it became useless, then that person threw it in the garbage in the garbage then from there then it was taken to some landfill or gets recycled can be done can be recycled, now assume it is put in some machine where it is recycled and made into thread again and with that thread, made T-shirt or pajama, or a towel shoes were made so the shawl was not always a shawl shawl will not always remain a shawl so, what changes is asatya what does not remain the same, is asat that which can be destroyed is asat that which has 'praagbhava (absence before its creation)' or pradhvansa bhaav (absence after its distruction), is asat in easy language that which has a start date and and end date 'praagbhava (absence before its creation)' or pradhvansa bhaav (absence after its distruction), is destructible can be destroyed the shawl was destroyed was put in the landfill slowly after a few years it became one with the soil because it is biodegradable back to soil so the meaning of asatya, is not that which is never visible like the sun cannot be seen at night now when Mahatma's say, Adi Shankar says 'Brahman Satyam Jagat Mithya Jivo Brahmaiva Naparah' the world is asatya vedanta uses the word mithya (illusion) not asatya (false) that is why asatya (false) is not considered, a basic word of Vedanta The Buddhist believe because they consider Aham (me) and 'Idam' (mine) both to be asatya (false) but in vedanta there is no place for the word 'asatya' (false) that which appears to be but is mithya (an illusion) in simple common language, we call it asatya (false) so when Shankar says the world is mithya (an illusion) the ones who do not understand say what are you saying... we can see it trees man, woman, land, sky, sun, moon, stars, trees animals, birds, oceans, waterfalls, rivers, we can see it all how is it false then how is he saying it does not exist now see the one who does not understand the word mithya (an illusion) they consider mithya (an illusion) and asatya (untruth) to be synonyms Mithya (an illusion) and asatya (untruth) are not synonyms similar words like water, jal, meen, toi, aab these are all words that mean the same many names for one thing similarly mithya (an illusion) and asatya (untruth) are not the same Shankar calls it mithya (an illusion) many people do not understand this they bring it to their level and say everything is untrue, the world is untrue who says it is false this shawl 'is' this 'talking body' is there listening bodies are here outside on GT road the world is there truck, bus, car, scooter, motor, bullock cart, all these are there outside this Ashram there is a big world the population of our country is 1.40 billion seven continents seven oceans this whole galaxy the milky way it's a huge vast world, who says this world is not being perceived absolutely, can be perceived we will say, the shawl is there, man is there too, the earth on which man is sitting that earth too is there, this earth is part of which galaxy that galaxy too is exists the universe, in which the milky way exists, is also there everything exists yet mithya (an illusion) now you ask, first thing is to understand the difference between asatya (untruth) and mithya (an illusion) I am not saying, the world does not exist it is difference is, you believe it to be satya (true) but it is not true so then is it false? no, this is not false either neither satya (true), nor astaya (untrue) 'na sat asat ubhay' (neither true nor untrue, both) one word mithya (an illusion) sat & asat... as soon as you say a fight starts that God is truth and the world is false, we have to go towards God and leave the world what a struggle but when we say it is mithya (an illusion) is there any struggle? what is not there but just appears to be it does not exist the question to leave or hold on to it does not arise at all when you believe the world to be true then you wish to hold on to it indulge in it you wish to hoard it name, fame, respect, money etc., etc., understand it like this, at night you dream, in the dream let us take a name which will make it clear suppose, in your dream you saw Shankar Lal could be anybody Tirlochan Singh, Shankar Lal, Ghanshyam, any one, I am just taking a name you see Shankar Lal Shankar's age is about 60 years and you saw Shankar's father too, who is 75 years old and Shankar's son who is 20 years of age so, twenty sixty, and seventy five, three men of three ages three different individuals Didn't you see them at one time? do this, in your dream, you saw your grandmother, your mother, or you saw your paternal grandfather or your father, you see your brothers and sisters your married siblings you saw their children too, so you see four age groups, four generations of at one time, in your dream Did you or didn't you see them all together at one time, now in this tell me Shankar's father should have been born before and then Shankar and Shankar's son should be born after him but in the dream you see them altogether so Shankar whom you saw will you call it truth or untruth will you call it asatya (untrue)? when you see it then it was satya (true)? what are you saying? when you saw it it was true? then? when the dream broke? it became untrue you did not understand it at all Eish (name) if someone says that today my grandfather is born and I too am born today and my child too is born today is it possible? then how is it satya (true)? is there any logic? but you saw in your dream you see your dead wife and the husband is taking to her, eating with her, going places driving around in a car going to the mountains enjoying a lot when he opened his eyes no wife, no mountains, no going around no food or drink. with dead wife he was roaming around, was that true? when it was happening even then it was an illusion when it was not happening even then it was an illusion but due to sleep the objects seen in the dream are thought to be true that is a mistake now come to the waking state he is a Malhotra Malhotra's father is no more Malhotra's son and daughter are there two sons further they have two children each and his mother and father are no more and this seems to be the truth 'my name is Malhotra', this is what you believe, right? your two sons live in Gurgaon, that also you believe in further they have two kids that too you believe your shop is in Khan Market this too you believe right? now this is true for you this is satya (the truth) or not? say it? now this is the mistake it is an illusion but you believe it to be true the dream world breaks every day in the waking state truth of your waking state is broken every night is it not? In the waking state, say your age is 85 years? eighty five had a dream in which Shankar's age is twenty years handsome & youthful, in his youth, he is out with his friends ogling at girls, when will I get married he is thinking when will I become rich when will my shop become big, he is thinking when will I have my own house? all the dreams that a 20 year old may have he has all those desires but the one who is dreaming is actually 85 years old but in his dream he is seeing himself as 20 year old at that time, that is true for him then that is the truth then the dream is broken and in the waking state, he realizes he is 85 years old so now this seems true okay, remember, when the dream was going on when saw himself as a 20 year old then he did not remember that he is 85 years old and is sleeping on a cot and seeing a dream all this is false that is seen now in a dream there is no memory of the waking state but in the waking state, there is memory of the dream let me ask you a question is waking state more powerful or the dream state? this is a question, answer... dream and that which is powerful every morning, upon waking you, declare it to be false useless, strange! and every night you are clouded by a dream you get fooled again what is invisible, if we call it asatya (untrue), the dreams, when they are happening are satya (true) and when not, then it is called asatya (untrue) when the awake state is there, it is called satya (true) when the dream state is happening, you do not even remember the wakeful state What to say of satya (true) & asatya (untrue) so in both, which one is really true and untrue? huh! now if you say asatya (untrue) then answer is wrong even if you say it is satya (true) that answer too is wrong the waking state is neither satya (true) or (asatya) untrue, dream too is neither satya (true) nor (asatya) untrue state of deep sleep is neither satya (true) nor (asatya) untrue all three state are mithya (an illusion) with gyana (knowledge) and adhyasa because of illusion this satya (true) and (asatya) untrue asatya (untrue) and (satya) true goes on appears to be even though it may be perceived it is just mithya (an illusion)
