When the mind doesn't become silent and keeps wandering - Then I have to ask you to make it silent by doing pranayama Use a word, use a mantra to silence the mind It is necessary to silence the mind Look, those who call Yoga useless in Vedanta This verse is cutting that out Without yoga, without yoga - nidhidhyasan is not possible The only difference is that in Ashtanga Yoga, the focus is kept outside either on Om or a specific part of the body But in Vedanta, we are not considering anything outside But do you know what? Sitting idle is the most difficult thing to do The mind doesn't think anything Near impossible So what do we do? I say, "Okay, now you must do mantra" Meaning- the thousands of things you were thinking about - Discarding all that and only the mantra remains For this using several ways and methods, Saints and Mahatmas have tried explained this topic in their own way Only one thought must remain And nothing else must be there When the mind goes outside to listen to something, it gets distracted If the mind goes inside to listen to something, then too it gets distracted But there is no wish to listen to anything Neither outside not inside Light the lamp of wisdom in your mind The mind is filled with the darkness of ignorance Light the fire of Brahman Light the lamp of Gyana in your mind Behold the effulgent light of Gyana in the temple of mind This body, mind and everything else are burden Light the lamp of Gyana in your mind Know that the expectations from this world are unreal Give them up- again and again! Light the lamp of Gyana in your mind Thus Kabir says, listen O Sadho! Work on the realisation of Self Light the lamp of Gyana in your mind Thus says Kabir Sahib, "Light the lamp in your mind" Burn the lamp in your mind The lamp of the fire of Brahman Fire of Brahman meaning vritti of Brahman There is a lot of darkness in the mind - darkness of ignorance, vikshepa and vasana (desires) Kabir Sahib says bring the light of fire of Brahman in the mind If it lights up, the mind will be illuminated Then this very mind will get illuminated This is (referring to) that shabad I sing- 'Mann to Jot Saroop hai, Apna Mool Pachaan''- O mind, you are a form of light, recall your innate nature The day remembrance dwells, the mind itself will become the embodiment of light This body, mind and everything else are all a burden If you kept towing them in your mind So, get rid of these and light a lamp in your mind Have no expectations from the world, no false expectations from this unreal world Give them up- again and again - Why again and again? Because your foolish mind will go there again and again It makes a mistake again and again Again and again, due to illusion gets caught up in the thought of doing this or that; this or that- so on and so forth Come on, let go of all this! Whenever this mind does something foolish, pull it's ears What will happen? "No, once this gets fixed, once this gets resolved- then everything will be fine" Nothing has ever been resolved in this world and it will never be No one has ever been able to finish up their world tasks Lord Rama's tasks were never finished Were they finished? We call him Bhagwan, we call him Avatar As soon as he came back from Gurukul, his mother sent him to exile He went into exile and his wife was kidnapped Then he went into the battle, taking along a huge army of Vanaras with him and with great difficulty brought Sita back Then someone objected, a washerman objected - how can he accept her after she lived with someone else for a year? Such difficult situations were created that Lord Rama had to let Sita Ji go and she left Now, Sita Ji was pregnant and she lived in the jungle with Rishi Valmiki and gave birth to Luv and Kush This Devi made Luv and Kush very brave and strong And here Lord Rama had sent out a horse for Ashwamedha yagya He had announced that whoever caught the horse will have to fight with him The intention was that there should be the rule of only one king - this used to be the political system in those days Like today Bharat has several states and everyone lives together There is one constitution, one flag, one government at the center which gives directions to everyone Right? And all states follow that Lord Rama tried to do something similar then Luv and Kush caught the horse They asked, "who does it belong to?" They were told it belongs to Lord Rama Earlier they used to praise him but when they found that Lord Rama had left his wife They didn't know that he was their father! So, they said, "now we will not leave him" "How did he let Mother Janaki go? We also want to see" "We also want to meet Lord Rama now" And Lord Rama came The fight ensued They were about to hit each other with arrows and it is said that it would be catastrophic In the meantime, Sita Ji came Sita Ji made them stop the fight And told them, "He is your father" And she also told the kids that we separated because of political and societal situations But we never went out of love And then Lord Rama also used to sleep on the floor since Sita Ji left He didn't indulge in any worldly pleasures, didn't get married, didn't do anything He was living like in exile even in the palace When all this was clarified - Then Luv and Kush's anger towards their father vanished And they said, "now both of you should be together again" Lord Rama also asks Devi to come with him to Ayodhya Sita Ji said, "No it's enough drama, I won't come with you now" How about that? Did Lord Rama's tasks get accomplished? Then who are you? Did his tasks get accomplished? In this world, whoever has come - whether an Avatar or Bhagwan or a Yogi or Siddha - Whoever goes, leaves their tasks unfinished That's why every Guru wants to find a good disciple who can take their work further Every father wants to have a good son who can take care of his wealth Everyone is worried about the future because they know their tasks will remain unfinished There is no one whose all tasks have ever been accomplished until today So just leave this thought Again and again get rid of this stupidity "I am doing this; I am the one running this household" - This 'I', 'I' you keep repeating, thumping your chest- just leave it aside Just leave it Kabir Ji is saying this, not me I don't care if you keep thumping your chest- It doesn't matter Thus says Kabir, listen O Sadho! Work on yourself - Kabir Ji is saying that fix yourself first But you are worried about tasks of others - your son, daughter-in-law, daughter, son-in-law Grandson, granddaughter, father, mother, aunts- Don't know who all! But your own tasks are in a mess You own are in a mess but you want to fix others' tasks Your own mind is in such a condition 'Kaam Krodh Nagar Boho Bharea, Mil Sadhu Khandal Khanda eh'- Look at your own mind, look at the filth that your own mind is full of Not interested in fixing that! Just fix your looks a little on the outside Wear nice clothes and ask people to praise you But look inside your own mind, is your mind good? So, Kabir says - light a lamp in your own mind Light the lamp of gyana (eternal wisdom) After nidhidhyasan, the subject of samadhi has been discussed until savikalpa We will take up further later on
