Sahejo Bai says, 'Those who do fasting, yoga & meditation without the guidance of a Guru...' 'Par fir bhi pawat nahi koor..' 'Koor' 'Koor' means 'koodh' 'koodh' means 'fool/ignoramus' Even after doing fasting, visiting holy sites, doing yagnas (ritual performed in front of a sacred fire often with mantras), doing yoga, you will not gain anything' - She (Sahejo Bai) said. 'Swarg mrityu patal jimi main soi Hari ka noor...' 'Patal' means below. 'Swarg' means wherever there is happiness and in mrityu (death). In heavens, in death & in patal, 'jimi' means on the earth.. She said, 'Wherever I look, I behold Hari's radiance everywhere.' 'Charan Das guru mohe btayo, Sahejo sab ka moor...' 'Moola' means root. Root of everything. Root of all is one God. Sahejo Bai says: 'My guru Charan Das has taught me this.' He told me - 'naino lakh laini, Sai tainde hazoor..' 'I have seen it with my eyes.' Which eyes did she see with? Not with these eyes of the physical body. 'I have seen it!' - She is saying it with certainty. 'Sai tainde hazoor..' If God was realized only with Gyana then books & scriptures of Gyana.. The printing press in which these books are printed, their proof readers, writers, typists all of them would have been liberated. If God was realized by only doing yogasanas, If God was realized after visiting holy places, Kabir Sahib says - Have you ever seen flock of sheep and goats. They are always on the mountains. Even if they climb a mountain - they can never be a Gyani. So he is making fun. Those who keep on visiting pilgrimages & stay on mountains. One moment they are on this mountain & next moment they climbed the other mountain. And somehow all pilgrimages are located on the mountains. They are on height. Going by foot was the only option back then. Now there are helicopters . Now you can even go by helicopter. But in older days, people had to walk, they had to trek, go through jungle, go to 14,000 feet height, go to 16,000 feet height. And I have met some sadhus who have visited all pilgrimages of India by walking. No train, no plane, no bus, no car - by walking! And not only once but twice. It is a big austerity, it is not easy to walk all the way. And where did they start? They started from Gangotri & once to Kanyakumari and then west from Kanyakumari, Kerela, Gujrat, Rajasthan visiting all pilgrimages that come in the way. Haryana and then Uttar Pradesh and then Rishikesh & finally back to the ashram. Next time they started again. This time from Kedarnath. They walked from Kedar going westwards, doing darshan in east direction, passing through Central India they walked to all pilgrimage sites & finally reached back to Rishikesh. Roughly 250,000 Km they walked on foot. They are ascetics. But one doubt is raised by Sahejo Bai, that - 'Will you find truth by visiting pilgrimages?' And Sahejo Bai is saying this with full courage. The country in which many saints & sages only visit pilgrimages for whole of their lives and they live a life full of hard austerities. Sahejo Bai is asking this question - By visiting holy places can you meet that 'hazoor' (God/Supreme Reality)? She is saying, 'Jinko gyan Guru ko nahi so pawat nahi koor..' (Meaning) He will not be able to attain (God realization). Obviously those who only visit holy places, do fasting or only do yagnas, they might get furious after hearing this... 'Who has done better fasting than me?' 'Who else is doing better yagna than me?' While doing yoga, yagna, pilgrimages - at what time ego creeps in, you will not even know. Swami Akhandananda ji Maharaj used to say - 'The Truth lies within you. You are searching outside, how will you find it?' Whatever is at home (within) - you will have to sit (in meditation) for that. Ok, what will you sit & do? If there is no light of Gyana, how will you find Him within yourself? So the light of Gyana is imperative and for gyana you need a Guru. However, If you do yoga, yagna, pilgrimage & fasting - it helps in purification of the mind. That is also very important. Understand this one thing, we use soap to cleanse the dirt on the cloth but if you scrub the soap too hard and you don't rinse it properly in the water and that same cloth you ironed. Now this stain, nobody will be able to remove. So use the soap, remove the stains but then also remove the soap. Pilgrimage, fasting, yoga & sadhana - practice them but if your ego stays intact then it will be fruitless. That is why yoga, yagna, japa, austerity etc. should all be done. There is no fault in doing them but your mind should not be stained with its impurities. You should not be egoistic - 'Oh I did this & I did that.' So let's...ego should not be developed in you. You have to take care of that also. There are some questions regarding this subject as well. I will take them. Vivek from Kangra. He has asked - Is knowledge of Vedanta must for moksha? By satsang or sat-karam (virtuous deeds) we can purify our antahakaran (mind), can we attain moksha by satsang or satkaram? In a way, I have already answered that. By doing satkaram, as Sahejo Bai has just mentioned - yoga, yagya, pilgrimages & fasting etc, by doing all this your mind gets purified but if ego is not developed. Clothes are cleaned with a soap but if soap stays in the cloth - then what? Then this cloth gets even more dirty & those stains don't go away. So we use the soap, rub the cloth and then we rinse & wash it. So what do we wash away? Just the dirt or the soap as well? We also wash away the soap. Similarly, satkaram is a soap with which the impurities of mind are cleaned. But if someone only does satkaram & does not hear the satsang and in satsang too, you have written the exact right word & that is Vedanta, if he does not listen to Vedanta - so will he attain moksha? Certainly not! Because ignorance/illusion is dispelled only with gyana. Whatever is the source of this gyana, this Upanishidic gyana, we call it Vedanta. And only this can dispel illusion. Otherwise many illusions will be formed...see in India, there are 6 major philosophies (darshan). Sankhya, Nyaya, Purva Paksh & Uttar Paksh and many spiritual lineages have evolved from these but broadly speaking, there is Yoga & there is Vedanta. They expound one subject only. On the same subject these different lineages have different opinions. And these opinions are very dissimilar. For example, now we are going to talk a bit about scriptures, In Sankhya darshan, prakriti is considered as eternally real entity and Paramatman is called Purusha. So Purusha & Prakriti are eternally together. Ishwara has not created Prakriti. Infact, Ishwara & Prakriti go parellel - this is Sankhya's opinion. Right? As per Purva Paksh - all this material world is formed by our karma. So the root cause of this material world is our Karma. If we take Yoga, Yoga says, it is almost similar to Sankhya but there are 2 differences in that - One says - Nirishwarwadi, they say there is no Ishwara just Prakriti and I am Purusha. So they consider dual realities, some consider the existence of 3 realities. 3 means - Me, Ishwara & Prakriti and Vedanta says, Prakriti is just an illusion, it is Maya - there is only one truth. Truth is non dual. Yoga says Prakriti is real and Paramatman is real. Vedanta says - truth is only one. Non dual. And the material world that you are seeing is a delusion. Now these are 2 very different opinions. Right? In yoga they say - No matter how much sadhana you do, the supreme goal attained is that you will attain Ishwara-padvi (Qualities of Ishwara). But Yoga path also has 'Yog-bhrashta'. You attained the highest state but due to ego or due to another dosha, he can fall off from his highest state. Vedanta holds completely different viewpoint. Vedanta says, Ishwara & Jeeva, both are created by Maya after removing the veil of Maya what remains behind them is same Atman. So Vedanta gyana, Sankhya, Nyaya, Purva Paksh, Yoga - which path you want to follow... Till one point all paths are same. Fine. But after this point - there is a big difference. For example, Nyaya, Sankhya & Yoga, if you follow these - you can definitely reach upto Self-realization. After Nirvikalpa Samadhi you will realize the Self but whether Atman & Paramatman are same or different, this doubt will remain unresolved. That will remain intact. That is not going to resolve. That is why, there is no yogi, in my experience or the ones I have met, there is no such yogi who is not a Vedantist from within. But for practice, for teaching they keep yoga as the medium because they feel that Vedanta is dangerous because if understood in one day - 'Ok! I am God.' Then Guru ji can leave and Ishwara can leave. Why should I care for them if I am God? Only hearing was required & I have already heard, then what is the difference between Guru & me. What is the need to respect a Guru. He does not know that this sutra of knowledge has turned him into a demon Ravana. That is why there is a step by step process for Vedanta. What? That a disciple should be mumukshu (possess strong desire for liberation). Should have purity of mind and should go to the Master as per the tradition. What is the difference between a Guru & a teacher? Do you call teacher at home for tuition? Your child also knows the fact that my father pays my teacher & hence he comes home. So a child does not have the respect for the teacher. He will not respect either. It is very difficult. Teachers are beaten. What to talk of teachers, recently a Vice Chancellor was beaten by students. So the student who can beat their Vice Chancellor, disrespect him, dishonor him, do you think such children can learn anything? They cannot. So what is the difference between Guru & a teacher? Vedanta is taught as a subject in Universities. There is MA & Phd in Vedanta and such Phd vedanta students, lecturers, professors I have seen. Their vocabulary is excellent but not their lives. They are proud & egoistic. They don't have a life. There is no joy, no bliss, so it is advised to go to guru as per the eligibility requirements. How a guru should be, Vedanta also gives their characteristics. See, if you don't go according to the tradition and if you start to self-study a lot as I just shared with you... Now if someone is interested and he buys the scriptures of Vedanta, Sankhya as well as Yoga... There is no need to purchase them anymore, they are available on the internet and on T.V. all types of speakers are there. People don't have understanding which school of thought/philosophy this teacher belongs to. People say, 'They are all same.' They are such big fools. People who say that they are all same. How can they be all one? They are not at all same. Otherwise, why would there be six different schools of thought? They would have said only one, why are they saying six? There are dualists, non-dualists. Dualist will say that we can only worship God. When God will be happy, he will grant us the liberation. That is what Bhakti path says. But Gyana says, 'Bhakti, whether you do it or not, it is a different topic but the moksha that you have attained due to grace of God, God can take it away if he is unhappy. So we don't want such a moksha. This is not moksha. It is an illusion. When liberation is attained after the grace of God, now if God's mood changes he will put you back in the bondage. 'If I have liberated you, I can also bind you.' So this cycle of bondage & liberation does not exist in Vedanta. Not anywhere.
