When you see some reputed businessman, notice some government officer, his secretary always accompanies him right the one who maintains a diary that at such and such time you have this meeting, this time there is that meeting, there is lunch at this time, at a certain time you have to do this the secretary keeps all the account, the boss does not know anything, he reminds him and the boss does accordingly, this is the job of a secretary Now, we are children of Paramatman (the supreme self) hence, we are also not insignificant, this is why God gave us this secretary in the form of the mind What is job of the mind? it keeps account of everything, what should be done and when, what shouldn't be done see if your mind forgets where your house is, then where will you go if it forgets this only, who your wife is forgets this only, who your husband and kids are, who remembers all these things? It is the mind that remembers it Mind is a very useful entity but the difficulty is that when we allow the mind to overpower us then we commit mistakes why? Mind becomes an unbridled horse then it runs anywhere like a wild horse, it is going to trample you under its feet now, if the wishes of the mind are not fulfilled like, suppose someday, do this all these things are supposed to be practiced, what I am saying isn't just meant to be only listened to your mind is very upset because of something it is agitated some thought is coming, some tension appears now two situations can exist, one you worry and cry and be sad second that time, you sit and begin to practice some Pranayama In order to practice pranayama, you will have to bring your attention on the breath attention will have to be brought to the body and, mind is slightly stupid wherever it is directed, it goes there so, instruct it- let us do pranayama right now, we will worry later, no problem because the subject matter of worry is standing there itself assume that some notice has come some court summon has come or some relative has gone back on his promise to return money your crying or worrying won't change the thing, it is going to stay the same so so give some wisdom to your mind that O mind do not indulge in stupidity, let us do pranayama now we will worry later. Postpone it this way Can't you do this much? Will you be able to do it? yes, do it if you do this engage it in Pranayama now when you inhale, be watchful when we inhale then, our chest and stomach expands towards the front expands towards the sides as well as the backside you know nothing about the back side you know nothing about the sides as well and many times, when I say this forcefully, people start to inflate their stomach (abdomen) what will happen by inflating your stomach (abdomen) this way you have to catch the natural movement that is happening are you understanding when we breathe in like have you seen a harmonica..it is an instrument, or our harmonium for that matter when, it's flaps are released after air is drawn in, then its three parts tend to expand this way and when air is blown into it, then it closes this way so, our lungs our stomach back, and sides these all expand the same way when we breathe in but attention does not go towards it now, after this spiritual discourse wherever you are staying by sitting there practice this again but this time... how do we do it, this time that attention should also be on your back attention should also be on the sides attention should be everywhere now, if you will do it this way then where would be the space for mind to think about anything else like, you are looking at me right now so you can't look back at this time and if you turn backwards to see then you can't see me so, the mind its circumference of its focus is very narrow so, we pinpoint this, that now we will only focus on the breath and we won't do anything else for the conscious mind, when we do not allow it to expand, we limit it What did this happen? This is referred to as the one-pointed concentration of the mind 'aagrah' means you want to you want to..your mind wants to think about hundred things you said leave, leave those hundred things, think about just one thing right now so those ninety nine were dropped ninety nine reminds me of one thing though the story is fictitious, but still it is useful, listen to it Once a gentleman used to worship a lot, would worship in the Shiv temple, would sing devotional hymns Lakshmi and Vishnu say see how good he is Lakshmi says, he is he is so good this way, not everybody is like that Vishnu says, see these are the wonders of devotion now Lakshmi, being playful she said, wait I'll show it right now What will you do? She said, wait and see for yourself my divine act one bag in front of him was kept when the devotee opened his eyes then he found the bag lying in front of him he opened the bag there are coins in it of silver wow! where did they come from, initially he felt surprised and anxious looked around, there was nobody he thought who knows since it is Lord's play God must have given it he can do anything then his mind thought let me see what is inside it so he took out all the coins he counted and on counting, they were found to be 99 in number then he thinks, why was a lesser coin given then came ninety nine, if by doing something I can add one more to it then it will become 100 so how should I get one more so, I should do some work so, leaving the rosary and devotional hymns, he went in search of work Lakshmi laughed and said, see it is a vicious cycle of only 'one' because, the day he acquired a hundred then some expenses also cropped up when expenditure occurred, then only 60 remained so, I should again make these 60 as one hundred it became 98, Okay now it is short of two more vicious cycle....so 99 is quite a vicious cycle whenever mind engages in the game of ninety nine then understand that now this is the vicious cycle of Lakshmi at that time, one should become careful it is not that difficult illusion...in order to explain the illusion of the mind, the notion of Lakshmi has been created to explain Lakshmi is not someone else, it is your own mind Illusion is not somewhere else, it is your own mind which is making you whirl No God or Goddess is so free that they will come to trap you in some cycle you yourself are so entangled why would someone else do that The more you will try to live in the present remember yesterday's two formulae first- I am not the physical body nor is the body mine second- this world that is being seen is going to perish only Paramatman (the supreme self) is blissful now, keeping these two principles in front bring the third thing and that is your spiritual practice What will happen is that initially for sometime, mind will become stable, then it will begin to wander, again it will be stable and then it will run elsewhere; there's no problem in that. It is such an old habit, it won't go away in just one day Be patient at that time by being patient keep working on your breath by regularly doing this, mind's thoughts will begin to become lesser as the one pointed concentration of the conscious mind begins to increase, it will finally increase so much that, for you everything else will become minor meaning, they will become secondary, they will not disturb you then and a good state that will emerge from this is that, the more one's mind gets internalised the more one's mind becomes calmer the more one's mind becomes one-pointed experience of the bliss of Ishvara will become clearer and one day, it will become so clear like, Baba Bulleh Shah has said this- "Murli baaj uthi anghatan" When we blow into a flute then from the flute musical note emerges Bulleh Shah says- now such a flute is playing within me that despite not blowing into it, musical notes are emerging "Murli baaj uthi anghatan" "sunn ke bhul gayiyan sab baatan" by listening to it, the entire world has now been forgotten "lag gaye anhad baan nyare" "jhoothi duniya kood pasare" now, I am listening to the wordless word within I am listening to that quietude, that meditativeness, and for me, all the lies of the world are now forgotten "sai mukh vekhan vanjaare, mainu bhul gayiyan sab baatan" now I have become that businessman who is catching hold of the best product, meaning there cannot be anything better than Paramatman (the supreme self) I have become that businessman now, who deals directly with Ishvara, not with anybody else "Bulleh Shah main hun barlaayi" "jadd di murli kaanh vajai" 'barlayi' means like, an alcoholic speaks anything he says, I am so intoxicated I am speaking anything now, why inside me, such a flute has now been played by Krishna "bawri hoke tusson val dhaayi" being besotted, I am running towards you O Lord "khojiaan kitt val dast varaatan" and the one I used to seek outside I have found Him right within me "hunn main chanchal mirg fahaya" 'fahaya' means caught Who is 'mirg' (deer)? The mind now I have caught this unsteady deer like mind "osse mainu ban bahaya" one that had tied and swayed me behind itself, making me wander in the world, now I've tied it up "sirf dugana ishq padhaya" what did it do says- had tutored my mind, giving it double dose of love not single double shot one won't suffice what are these two kinds of love one for Lord, one for Sadguru (True Master) "rah gayiyan trai chaar rakatan" 'rakat' refers to a cycle so rakat means, when somebody thinks I'll complete a cycle of hundred or thousand so Bulleh Shah says about life... now hardly three to four rakat (the repetitive cycles) are left meaning, the body might have grown old "rah gaiyan trai chaar rakatan" no problem why? "murli baaj uthi anghatan" listen to this
