You say that we... Our parathas are very delicious If you'll eat paratha..A person was saying, 'After eating the paratha, it felt as if I had witnessed a beautiful sight' This line, that I am speaking is often used by Punjabis Don't know which beautiful sight they are looking for 'It felt as if I had witnessed a beautiful sight' Okay! Let's take you to a kulcha shop now It won't take much time, Amritsar is close by; let's go We'll have it arranged But if fifty kulchas are placed in front of you, and you are asked to eat all fifty And if you don't eat them, then I'll also have policemen who will be sitting alongside They'll keep doing their job, you know it well How much fun will it be? Tell Objects of the senses can give happiness And if I do not get it, then I'll be unhappy If this is your understanding then I am saying that If unlimited sensory objects are provided to you then will your happiness too become unlimited? Tell? It won't This is why, when you eat lesser then the taste comes And if one has to eat the same food repeatedly or has to eat in larger quantities, then the person starts crying So, one thing is confirmed Happiness isn't derived from sensory objects If it is received in lesser quantity and only occasionally, then it can make one feel pleasant But if it is received in larger quantity and one is made to consume the same thing everyday Try to think A man came home and asked his wife, "What have you cooked?" She replied, "Moong dal" Next day, when he returned home from office, he asked, "What have you cooked?" She replied, "Moong dal" Third day, when he asked, it was asking 'moong-dal' What do you think, while sitting in a state of tranquility, will the husband eat moong dal? Yes? Or some other program will begin? No matter how dear something is Happiness derived from it would always be limited So, happiness experienced in the world will always be limited There's nothing unlimited here What are unlimited, are your desires and vasanas They make you crazy I can provide happiness to myself I can elevate myself I can make myself powerful And this 'I' that you have It is this 'I' of yours that is the source of your miseries And within the mind and intellect that constitute this 'I', there is ignorance Hence, this ignorant intellect gives more misery You should remember This human life hasn't been received only for sensory indulgence Now if I were to make a dog, cat, and buffalo sit down and understand that this is in the Bhagavad Gita, this is in Guru Nanak's Bani Those poor creatures wouldn't be able to comprehend this It is only you, humans who can understand it But, despite being a human, if you'll only be concerned about eating and drinking just like animals Then, what difference remains between a human and an animal? No difference remains Therefore, 'Vichara' is of utmost importance The principle of karma states that if you perform sinful deeds, the result will be suffering The principle of karma states that if you perform virtuous deeds, the result will definitely be happiness It will certainly be! If you don't want sufferings to come in your life Point number 1 Please note it Understand it Perform noble deeds Perform virtuous deeds Engage in selfless service If you'll sow babul seed then it won't grow into a mango tree Because of one's self-interest and greed Causing pain to others, looting them, and inflicting suffering upon them Keeping an eye on others' wealth and possessions After committing such sins and atrocities, if you think that you'll become happy You are making a significant mistake, dear You are highly mistaken Not desiring sorrows in life Thinking this isn't necessarily a very wise thing either The reason is Baba Nanak's Bani says - sukh dhukh dhue dhar kaparrae sukh dhukh dhue dhar kaparrae pehirehi jaae manukh Just like the pair of night and day moves together There will never be a day that is not followed by a night There will never be a night that is not followed by a day Similarly, there is no such person who will not experience sorrow in their life And there is no person who will not experience happiness after going through sorrow in their life We have received these two garments - pain as well as pleasure Bani says - sagal srisatt ko raajaa dhukheeaa har kaa naam japath hoe sukheeaa Not just the head of a district, a province, a state, or a country Even if you become the king of the entire creation Gurudev says that you will still experience suffering You can't be happy unless the remembrance of God comes into your life So, firstly accept one thing and it is this That, if we have been born, then death is inevitable Right! And if we have been born then pain and pleasure too would be there Because of one's own stupidity, a person commits sins and engages in cruelty If one engages in sin and cruelty, then its result if going to be suffering But those whose mothers are wise That house in which The grandfather, father Daddy Whichever way you address them Be it Daar ji Pita ji Papa..whichever way you address them If that person is wise If that person is enriched with knowledge Then, holding the child in arms, he should impart this teaching to them That my child, in life, there will be both sorrow and happiness Neither can we run away from sufferings, nor can we escape happiness And nobody else is responsible for this pain and pleasure, but I am myself responsible for it My karma is responsible I cannot talk for others, but those who are seated here in front of me at this moment Who are righteous, virtuous, are seated in the company of the wise I appeal to you I request you I implore you Make sure to have this conversation while sitting down with your children Happiness is going to be a result of virtuous deeds Sorrows are going to be a result of sinful deeds And nobody can remove the existence of pain and pleasure Nobody can tear it apart and throw it away Even if it's a mahatma, a householder, be it a child, an old man or a youngster Sufferings will also be there; happiness will also exist Our wisdom should be such that if sorrows arise, then we do not get immersed in them If happiness comes, then we shouldn't lose command over our senses during that time This should be your preparation Are you ready for this? Saying - 'O Lord, may there be happiness, may there be no sorrow' Now, if the husband is gripped by a fever She begins cursing God - 'I had prayed to God, I performed the Akhand Paath as well, and still my child fell ill' I have seen such women who say - I am not going to visit a Gurudwara from now onwards Baba doesn't listen to me My child fell terribly ill Some side-effect occurred, some severe infection happened, the child had to be hospitalised, he want taken to the I.C.U And the mother is crying inconsolably She is cursing God She is cursing, I am never going to go to a Gurudwara now, there isn't any God, my child's state is such and so on Where is it written, you tell me Where is it written That in the homes of those you visit Gurudwara, there shall be no sorrows You tell me where has this been written Bani embedded in 1430 pages of Adi Sri Guru Granth Sahib, in all the ang In this life For the past forty years, I have thoroughly read each and every line I didn't come across such a line where it was written that those who remember the Lord do not experience sorrows in their life Maharaj hasn't mentioned this anywhere Why go far! Just look at the life of Guru Maharaj Guru Nanak Sahib performed four Udasis Leaving behind the comforts of home, wife, and children At times, he travelled to the north and at other times, to the east; He even travelled to Iraq He even travelled to Kailash Mansarovar, and also journeyed to Sri Lanka Travelling to all these places He taught people to be in devotional remembrance of Paramatman; recited and taught the chant of 'Satnam' Baba liberated all four directions Travelling in all the four directions, Guru imparted the teachings of gyana and teachings of love and devotion As Baba travelled on foot, did he not endure physical hardships? There's a Gurudwara near Indore called Betma Sahib Sri Guru Nanak Dev Maharaj's chola is kept there It has been preserved in glass In one of the Gurudwaras, I had seen Maharaj's khadau Due to constant walking, the khadau have become worn out How much he has traveled! Didn't his body experience hardships while walking? Food might be available somewhere, and might not be available somewhere else Mardana Ji would always say - Baba, you can survive only on air, but I feel hungry. Please arrange for some food for me But hunger, thirst, walking on foot... And going to numerous places, propagating the practice of sumiran, imparting teachings, holding gatherings of devotees Did Guru not experience physical hardships? Sri Guru Arjan Dev Maharaj Ji, when it comes to the suffering he has endured, is there anyone in the world who can say that I can match his level? You cannot even come close to matching that level At times He was made to sit in a large cauldron filled with hot boiling water He was subjected to torture by being made to sit on a heated plate of iron On whose head, hot sand was poured He endured such unbearable and indescribable sufferings Even then, from his speech, from his mind, the remembrance of Parmatman never wavered He doesn't complain even once that I am your devotee then why are there so many sufferings in my life Why? Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib attains martyrdom For the sake of Kashmiri Pandits, he goes to Delhi himself He was well aware that a cruel... A cruel king is seated there, who won't listen, who won't understand But still he went He knew what would happen if he went there, yet he still went In Chandni Chowk He was beheaded He was martyred Look at the life of Dashmesh Pita Not one, not two, not three, but who sacrificed his four sons for the nation Anandpur Fort was taken away His father was martyred first, followed by the martyrdom of his sons Whereabouts of his wife weren't known. His mother also attains martyrdom Such... Guru goes through such difficult times But, just show me one line wherein Dashmesh Pita might have complained that Parmatman, why is there suffering in my life Why? He didn't complain even once You might say - Oh, they were Gurus, how can we match their level Okay, I'll slightly reduce the level Bhikhan Ji Preparations of Bhikhan Ji's only son's wedding procession were going on And drums and trumpets were playing, people were dancing, and songs were being sung The horse was being adorned, and the groom was also ready They asked, 'Where is Bhikhan Ji, where is father of the groom?'; They said, 'We searched for him everywhere, but he couldn't be found anywhere' Then someone said that he was seen going towards his room The room's door was closed and so the door was knocked on and they kept saying, 'Open it, open it, open it' 'Coming, coming, coming', Bhikhan Ji opened the door after some time 'What are you doing inside?' 'Nothing, nothing' Okay, is it the time now? 'Yes'; Okay, let's go then The drums are playing, people are dancing, it is his son's wedding day Songs for good fortune are being sung As they move outside their village The horse got startled It lifted both its legs, and dashed away in a gallop The groom fell down, a stone hit his head, blood flowed, and right there his life's lamp extinguished The wedding procession Turned into a funeral procession The mother is crying inconsolably Sisters, aunts, everybody is crying inconsolably What has happened?! The dead body is brought back home and Bhikhan ji is walking calmly The body is placed on the ground Everybody is crying, the relatives, people from the village Bhikhan ji went inside, and when he came out, he had a shroud in his hands What is the purpose of having a shroud in a wedding house? Bhikhan ji opens that shroud, and he places it over his only son Outcries erupted from the people - a shroud from the wedding house, Bhikhan ji? What is this? He said - Nothing, I knew that it is my son's last day today And I also knew That he will certainly mount the horse and depart from the house, but he won't return the same way he left And the wedding is not going to happen I had known about this thing for a long time And it became clearer this morning This is why, when you were preparing for the wedding Since it was a small village, so everybody had gathered there And, after this accident, from where will the shroud come? That's why, while being inside, I was cutting the fabric and sewing the shroud Just think, when they were dancing and jumping outside Bhikhan Ji was sewing the shroud inside His wife said - how heartless you are! If you knew about your son's death, you shouldn't have let him mount the horse Bhikhan replied - O Dear No human has the power to stop death And neither do I This accident will happen, that's all I knew; who can stop it? Who can stop death from happening? And Bhikhan ji is not some Guru Bhikhan ji is not a satguru But Bhikhan ji is a devotee Those who lead their lives, while understanding its truth that there shall be both pain and pleasure here If birth will happen here, then death too is going to happen So, when death is inevitable And this is the principle of this creation of Ishwara that a Jeeva experiences pain and pleasure because of its prarabdha karma When his karma come to an end, then the life force also exits his body
