Understanding the Loss of Interest in Sadhana & the Remedy Anandmurti Gurumaa (English subtitles)

Q: As per your instructions, from approximately last 10 years, I had been doing Maha Mritunjaya Mantra Sadhana (Mantra Chanting). From this very mantra sadhana I also had many divine experiences but since last 3-4 months in this... I have completely lost interest in it. Please give some solution? If your mind is not interested, then let it be. Leave it. When mind starts to withdraw from mantra sadhana then in this there are 2 conditions due to which this happens. First thing is that somewhere your mind's restlessness, your mind's 'vikshepa' (disturbance/distraction). Now what is the reason for mind's vikshepa? It is also for 2 reasons. One is - reasons that are in front of us, for example, you had a dispute with your family member or some problem with your neighbors or some trouble in your workplace or your... 2nd reason is that your previous birth's past life's that... 'sanchit' (sum total of all actions done by the Jiva during countless previous births) 'paap karma' (sinful actions), they cause a disturbance in your 'chitta' (subconscious mind). One that we call 'Paap phal' (Fruits of sinful actions), Punya phal (fruits of virtuous deeds). It is not necessary that you will get that in the form of some material thing outside. When your mind stays calm without any reason, then this will be the result of your previous birth's punya phal. Due to this - you did nothing and the mind is very calm, one pointed and very steady. All positive things are happening in this mind. And sometimes due to our own sinful actions, without any reason there is vikshepa in the mind. I cannot say that this happens in all cases. But sometimes what you call depression - that everything is good at home, you have wife & kids, you have money, all that you need is there but still there is sadness in the mind. And mind does not want to talk to anyone, does not want to speak, and cries sitting alone or is just sitting like a stone. Classic signs of depression that we call nowadays. It is depression due to which men or women and sometimes even little children.... I had a visitor sometime ago. His age was around 14 years. 14 year old boy, from last two years, had been taking depression medicines. That means when he was 12 years of age, he had to be taken to a doctor. He did not like to study, was not interested in playing, always sitting alone and was bored. So when he gets bored... our.. he revealed to our doctor after fully confiding in them. He revealed this that he watches pornography means vulgar movies that are available on the internet. He watches that on his phone and spends his whole time in that. Now in 12 yrs of age suffering from depression ? We don't understand this. 12 years old boy wants to watch pornography and spends his whole time in that. Now this seems to be an unimaginable thing. But it is true. So when he shared this problem then... Because he came in youth retreat, in youth retreat kids learn a lot, so while he was learning and doing all these things he started liking it - his mind became happy and he said that he now likes satsangs. So both of them, him and his brother, started coming to ashram regularly. Whenever they got a chance, they started living in the Ashram and then retreats that were for elderly, they started asking permission for those too. Now see, there are two conditions that are visible in this. When his mind was disturbed, it was disturbed for no reason. And it was so disturbed that all those things that should not be done in that age he was doing them. But when he had a desire to visit the Ashram, had a desire to meet me, now this was strange because both his mother & father never visited the Ashram. Their family only came to Rishikesh retreat once. Now Rishikesh Retreat - people consider that as a vacation means it is a tourist place, you can visit Neelkanth, Massoorie Haridwar etc., so there is a lot of roaming around. In our Rishikesh retreat you will find less of sincere seekers and more of sightseers. People come there as tourists because kids have holidays during that time. They bring them there. So his parents came there but they do not come to this Ashram but still this kid had a desire to come to the Ashram. Now what will you call this ? Fruits of virtuous deeds from past life - what else? That this 14 year old kid takes permission from his parents and comes here and he lived here for nearly a month and he felt very healthy and happy and good. That he will lead a good life, he took this positive thought back with him. So sometimes our 'agyat' (unknown) means previous karmas... Agyat brings its strange effects along with it. So suddenly, out of the blue if rajoguna & tamoguna starts increasing or suddenly if sattvaguna is increasing... out of these three, anything can happen. If tamoguna increases, he will become very foolish and he will become lazy and he will always be sleeping and will be angry very often. So when your mind loses interest in mantra sadhana then certainly it is a matter of concern. We should take care of this. What you can do in that is - change the sequence of your sadhana. When mind starts to get disinterested then this child like mind should be given a little slap. To give a little slap do two things. People whom you consider lesser than you or you consider them inferior in terms of money or a skill, people whom you consider to be incapable, such people you should serve. Now you will say where shall we find such people? This you will have to do, I am not going to tell you everything. But those who are in some trouble, in suffering, in some difficulty, in pain, in shortage of money, or kids that are in slums, and around you people who are financially very weak, such people you should serve & help. Help them with their education. Giving money is not helping. Help them in learning means give them tuition, teach them. If you cannot do this, if your interest is not like this then around you if there is an elderly who is in pain & suffering. Sometimes we know that people in this house are not serving their elders, so keep an eye out for such people who are helpless, who are elderly who are weak. Considering them as visible manifestation of god, you should serve them with great respect. Third- if there is temple near your house or Gurudwara, go there and do cleaning service whatever service is available, cleaning dishes sweeping or moping or cleaning shoes and arranging them in order. With this service, you can fill your heart. In these times, one should do 'swadhyay' (self study). That we, as we say that- Bhagwad Gita's second chapter, 6th chapter and specifically chapter 16,17 and 18- this you should definitely start reading. Now when 'asuri- vidya'/ 'asuri sampat'(evil tendencies) is mentioned and 'sur sampati'/'daivi sampat' (divine qualities) is mentioned, so when you will read about daivi sampat and you will read about asuri sampat then you will automatically realize that such & such things we always tend to do and such & such things should not be done and by doing such & such our mind will get fulfillment. So those ideals that you will establish for yourself, then whatever ups & downs of life... see mind is like water. Sometimes hot & sometimes cold & sometimes it will freeze & sometimes it will disperse. This is the nature of mind. In order to give mind one direction and keeping it steady on one path so much effort is required. As soon as your efforts loosen up a little immediately your mind will become rebellious and then it will do what it wants without thinking whether it is right or wrong, whether it is credible or not. So move a bit towards doing service and swadhayay. You will notice that as soon as the mind is peaceful then it will, with much ease & love, come back on its path, you will notice that yourself. And then you can again return towards your Japa. Alright ?
