Some of the Saints, for the convenience of people, have tried to present the deep & profound knowledge in simpler words, in our common language. And people's... Just like in front of me there is a letter. He is saying, 'This prayer, we have been doing since our childhood but we do not understand anything.' Now the question arises that... It is not difficult as such. If I read 2-4 lines from this then I think you would...well, you should tell me. Tell me! Ok let me read 2 lines from the middle (of the prayer). '....Bina Satguru Kripa howe na tattva vichar, Satgur hi lutawande heeray moti lal, murakh mann tu grahan kar satguru de naal, atma roopi lal se, bichhdan bhayo anath...' Now this is where I have a little disagreement. All is good but when someone says, 'We got separated from Atman hence we are orphans...' This is totally contrary to the wisdom of Bhagwad Gita. Atman means your own true Self. Now how can you be separated from your own Self? You can never be separated from your own Self! Your body can be separated from your Self. That is what we call death. Your prana (vital energy) can be separated from your Self. This is what happens in death. But you can not be separated from your Self. Atman means your own true Self. Your own reality. You yourself. This body that you got as a result of your virtues & sinful actions (Karma), as a result of these, the type of body that we got, this human body, is to bear the fruits of karma and do new karma. But this body, but this body, is not 'You'. This is just like when you come here to the Ashram, you arrived here by car or by bus. That car or bus is a vehicle with the help of which you reached here from your house. Right? Just like this, in order to traverse this world, we have been given this vehicle of human body. In this body, 5 senses of knowledge 5 senses of action. And in this same body mind, intellect & ego exists. And the one who is behind this mind, that is what we call the Atman. To make it even more simple, our pure Self! Let me put it like this. For example, if someone wears a coat in the winters, then this coat is not the human. Human has worn this coat. He can take off this coat and then people ask, 'Whose coat is this? Whose coat is this?' If there are many coats then 'Whose coat is this?. Then this question will also arise. So this body is just like a coat which is worn by my true Self - Atman. So my dear, you can never be separated from the Self. Further to this there is '......bina satguru chootey nahin 84 ko gaan man tu shehan shah hai ban baitha kangaal, satguru ki sharan mein, apna aap sambhal...' So in simple words, very beautiful things are said. But from this very particular one line I have an objection - When it said, '...bichhdan bhayo anath.. atma roopi lal se bichhdan bhayo anath..' I am recalling a story. Story is that one man started to get little forgetful. So his doctor suggested, 'Do one thing. In whichever room you sleep - right before you sleep, write down on a piece of paper location of things as you placed them. For example - shoes are near the door. Walking stick is close to the chair. Drinking water, jug & glass is on the right side of the bed. And clothes are in the closet in front of me.' So when he started writing like this, when he looked at himself he wrote - 'I am Mohan Lal sleeping on the bed.' Understood? Then he slept. In the morning, when he opened his eyes, he started to check. Where are the clothes? In closet. Where is drinking water? On his bed side. Where are the shoes? Near the door. Where is the walking stick? By the chair. Where is Mohan Lal? As it was written on the paper that Mohan lal is on the bed, sleeping! Right now Mohan Lal is standing & reading this paper. So he said, 'Oh! Mohan Lal is lost.' He started shouting, his children gathered around him & asked, 'What happened grandfather, what happened father?' He said, 'Your... Why are you saying father, father? Look, Mohan Lal is lost. He was on the bed, now he is not there.' Now how can they make him understand that Mohan Lal is your name. It is not someone else's name. Just like this - Atman is your name, not someone else's. We are talking about you. So if you read 4th chapter of Bhagwad Gita, 13th chapter if you read, & 6th chapter. If you have understood 4th, 6th & 13th chapter properly, then you... This Mohan Lal's state that you currently have... Those who say, 'We have one Atman inside us which goes out on dying & then this Atman goes around many places & then it is born somewhere.' Such a misconception would not have occurred, if you had properly understood & had firm conviction in the gyana of Bhagwad Gita. Then...See, saints & sages out of their compassion & grace...in simpler words, they try to express these things. We also respect them very much. But still, there is a saying in English, 'Listen from the horse's mouth' It is going to sound strange in Hindi, 'Sidha ghode ke mukh se suno.' But actually what it means is that - whatever is the original source/origin of the topic, if you understood it from its source, then all the different modifications of it, it's different forms- even if you see them, you won't have any concern. Now this conviction when it comes, these thoughts when they become your reality, this clarity of our intellect... How does that happen? By contemplating on gyana. So contemplation of the gyana... Like you eat food thrice a day. You take bath twice sometimes. Don't you think you should have atleast one time for swadhayay? That during this one time, I will contemplate & reflect on gyana. Doing mantra japa is very good. Doing simran is very good. It is all good but to lift the veil of ignorance from your mind it is important to have the wealth of gyana. That is why to attain gyana, we need scriptures. We need our ancient sacred texts. The wisdom imparted by our saints & sages. Again & again by reading, contemplating & understanding them, gradually it becomes part of your life & your thinking.
