The body originated from the dust and food And what did it merge back into? Again in earth, water. And, the fire accelerated this process You don't burn, bury it If you bury the body, then that which is a few hours job it will take many years even then the bones will be left even then the bones will be left that this one life is precious, do not spoil it take advantage of it as much as you can find Lord Understand Lord; it won't happen again and again Those who understood thought it will happen only once then with time, it became popular and the notion came into the being that there is only one birth So body got created from the food Sustained through the food and went back to the dust and five elements Right? This is cycle of body We cannot say when this event of death will happen and in whose body Sometimes 80 year old are sitting in the house but their 15-20 years old grandsons they die Sometimes the one who is sick, remains alive and the healthy being in the house died so when who will die -- how it happen in which situation it will happen at what time it will happen Nothing can be said about this for sure Now, one thing is there to understand life span is too short Right this deteriorating and degenerating-growing body If you keep living your life considering it as the primary aspect So, what will be the consequence of it? only pyre ashes.. that's it! No matter how much you eat; consume best of the best- What will be made in the end? feces and urine You live upto 70 or 80 or 100 years Even then, what is the final outcome of this body? It will turn into pyre ashes So, why to love this body so much? why to hold on to this body so much? What will we eat? when will we eat? where we will go and where not? Where we will travel? Where will we do? What clothes we will wear? Which places, we will we go to visit? Which ragas, and songs will we listen to? what things will we put in this mouth What things will we touch So there shouldn't be so much focus on the indulgences of the body See these hairs are there on your head So you say, this is me, how beautiful I am Yeah? You comb in the morning Some hair come off your head Well, I am not asking those who have lost it all You comb your hairs, some 10, 20 or 50 hair fall out or not? So do you sit and cry then? Oh no! my hair fell off What do you do? wrapped and thrown in the garbage bin Now remember, what you are seeing as garbage today was once in your head and you were referring to that as "I" You were saying? This body You call it as 'I' look how funny it is it has skin that's why it experiences the pain, right? It hurts when (one gets) cut with a knife, if caught with fire then burns a wound happens; it hurts But with this living body and skin, this nail is inert there is no pain if you cut the nail there is no pain if you cut the hair But the skin under the hair, if something happens here Suppose someone was cutting the hair and if the scissor cuts through the face, will something happen or not? Those who shave If the skin is cut while cutting beard, then? Ahhh! comes out from the mouth or not? So see, in the same body, two parts are inert and rest are live There is only one consciousness in the body pain is felt in the flesh in nails It is not! But yes if someone's nail gets ripped off and it takes along the adjoining flesh with it, then there will be a lot of pain that they were cutting the nails of their child and Accidentally the soft skin also got into the nail cutter, Ah! Child is going to cry a lot In this body, there nails and hairs are inert but the flesh grows in this body Flesh also grows; Understand it this way If got an injury on the hand You apply some ointment what will happen slowly, the wound will heal and what will happen then? the layer above it will get peeled off and when you see that here the upper layer got removed and underneath new flesh has come We will call this the growing of the body Was cut or burnt, applied ointment Within two weeks skin comes back so growth in the body; degeneration and disease in the body All these processes are happening but till when? As long as there is life(pran) in this body what will happen in a lifeless body? It will only decrease and decrease- nothing will grow now meaning- nothing new is going to happen that the hands and feet of the dead were cut off and we do not burn the corpse and it is kept like that then is not possible that new skin will grow now nothing will grow; no improvements; Over can swell but why it is swelling because inside that the worms and bacteria which are there have started their processing and eating If nothing is done, the body will explode all the fluids will come out A mess will be created. It shouldn't happen, that's why they take the body quickly to the pyre burn burn burn, otherwise A blown out corpse becomes more difficult to handle So the life that seems to be there in the body What is it because of? Because of Prana If prana is there, body is alive, if prana is not there, then the body.... is dead now let's say At what places is this Prana present in the body? Is it there in one part or everywhere? It is there in head as well as in the feet now any pain in the body or any disease something got cut or burnt then who experiences that pain? Will the body experience? or prana will experience? or the mind will experience? Are you getting this? Slowly-slowly, I'm unraveling some subject to you Who will experience? Mind Okay, mind is in which part of the body? is it in the head, chest, feet, stomach or knees.... Where it is? Mind is everywhere so there is body, the body has Prana and who is behind the Prana? Mind Now the pain is less or the pain is more Now my mind is fine Now my mind is little good Now my mind is all good Who calculates all this? Your....? your Intellect So who is behind the mind? Are you getting this much? Body is there; The body is made of food Prana is there in the body Behind the prana there is mind and behind mind there is intellect "my intellect is not working" "I am unable to remember" "I am unable to calculate this" "My brain is not working" "My intellect is not working" The One who is knowing this There is someone behind the intellect who is watching the intellect as well Someone said to you, you don't have brain You say, "hey leave it" "We have so much brain; we know it!" Do you say this or not? "and you don't have brain- this we know" But what does a person in front says? "What do you know of my intellect?" When husband and wife fight, they say the same thing to one another You don't have sense, he says you don't have sense One wife said "Yes, it's true that I have no sense" "If I were wise, would I have chosen you?" "You said it right; no sense at all" But you have sense or not Who knows it? Mind has known sorrows and pleasures If happened in the body- mind knows; even if you ate good or bad and drank something, your mind know and what is going in the mind, intellect knows it but what is going in the intellect, who knows it? Who knows the intellect? ? You have known or your neighbour has known Say it Huh? By the way, you keep doing me, me all the time, now when I'm asking, you are not saying anything There is sense in the intellect or not, intellect is working or not Who knows? I am nearest to the intellect, who knows? I know Who knows ? I know Now let's start again from beginning Body made from food Prana is there in the body Along with prana, there is mind Behind the mind, intellect is there Behind the intellect, I am there So I am not the body I am not the Prana I am not the mind I am not the intellect Got this much? Now in the language of Vedanta We call this body as 'Annmayi kosh' Prana is known as 'Pranmayi kosh' Mind is known as 'Manomayi kosh' Intellect is known as 'Vigyaanmayi kosh' and whenever there is happiness in the mind when that pleasure is felt, that is known as 'Anandmayi kosh' But I am not the intellect, separated from intellect But I am not the mind, but separate from the mind But I am not the Prana, separate from Prana But I am not the body, separate from body This much is clear? Know it like this If someone says, "Whose garland is this?" You said, "It's mine" Whose garland is this? Said Mine Garland is separate You are separate By saying 'mine', you are showing your right Right? This is mine said, "whose cycle is this?" one says, "it's mine" or "you will say, its not mine" "Whose it is?" one says, "It's yours" "The one who is standing in front, It's his" So, what is different from us, we associate that with 'mine' 'Mine' is a word, which creates the association To demonstrate the relationship between the object and myself, we say 'mine' My house So house is different, and I? The car is mine- So the car is different and I? My children- Children are different, and I? The body is mine So, the body is different and I am different from it One thing is for sure, this body is not me this body is not me and the truth is that this body is not even mine When everything is fine and no sense in intellect When everything is fine and no sense in the intellect then one would say- "Everything is mine, everything is mine" where you get sick and the body becomes fragile or some operation happened so the doctors asks the patient to stand up Patient says, "I am unable to stand" He says no, "No, everything is fine, stand up" He says, "my knees don't work" If they are yours, then give the order and move One says, even after giving the order they don't move 'my ears' if the listening gets impaired, will you be able to do anything to correct it? mastery is where we can you know use it and we can change it, then we should say, "they are ours" But this body... Can we run it as per our wish? It's a funny incident We were in England recently So a devotee said, "please visit our place" I said, "No, this time we'll not go home" "don't wish to go home" They said, "No, please you come; they requested a couple of times and I denied so they got a bit sad Then she came to prostrate before leaving for home She bowed down to do Pranaama and looking at my feet, she said, "O feet, why you didn't want to come home?" How I have angered you O feet? Now, what to say! so, she segregated the feet and seperated me from them
